Dr Stuart Jones, Principal

The Stuart Jones HPLC Academy was started and is owned by Dr Stuart Jones, who has 31 years of experience in HPLC.

He studied Chemistry at The City University London, which included a 40 page analytical essay in HPLC in 1980, for which he received first prize. He went on to do a PhD under Prof Stephen Davidson on the Photoyellowing of Wool. This included a lot of HPLC, primarily of amino acids, and resulted in the discovery of a new treatment to significantly reduce the yellowing of natural, bleached and optically whitened wool, which was patented by the International Wool Secretariat.

Stuart then went on to work for Whatman Ltd in Maidstone from 1984-1986 as Technical Manager covering HPLC, before starting Laserchrom in 1987, which he still runs today. Stuart is an active member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and sits on the Kent Section Committee in the UK. He is also a member of the Science Advisory Committee for the University of Greenwich.

As long ago as 1984 Stuart was presenting lectures in HPLC at the University of Loughborough HPLC Course as well as the University of London Course run at Hammersmith Hospital in London. He also took part in the Royal Society of Chemistry HPLC Course at the University of Sussex.

During the last 25 years Stuart has been developing HPLC methods for a wide range of customers, including the food industry, hospital labs, pharmaceutical methods, methods for extraction of surfactants from contaminated land, analysis of oil additives, analysis of novel compounds developed by PhD students in Universities in the UK, the analysis of fish food ingredients, and the analysis of estrogens in composted waste.

In 2009 Stuart published three articles about HPLC in the International Labmate publication. You can download those articles as pdf files from the links on the bottom left of the Laserchrom homepage

During the last 18 months, Stuart has been developing business contacts in countries throughout Africa, and is seeking out suitable homes in hospitals and universities for good used HPLC systems from the UK.
